The salaries of Cosmetologists depend on many factors, such as experience, ability, clientele,
location and salary or lease arrangements between the professional and the salon owner.
According to this article in 101 HAIRSTYLES...

April 2001 Article in 101 Hairstyles 'A Stylish Career
Choice'.   'Even in 1990, the average salary for full-time
cosmetologists was $25,931 plus $4,546 in tips'.

And, 'in 1998 for salon professionals was $18.54 per hour
while salon owners averaged $22.03 per hour.'

'The corresponding full-time salaries were $45,822 for
salon owner, $35,193 for salon employees and $38,563
for all professionals, both employees and salon owners,
inclusive of tips.'
The same April 2001 article also states:

'There are plenty of fresh new opportunities for work in
cosmetology with a zero unemployment factor.'

'About one quarter of all new positions have been filled by
inexperienced new salon workers.'

'Ninety-two percent or the vast majority of salon workers have one
or more years of experience and are employed by full-service
salons.'

According to research compiled in the most recent 2003 NACCAS Job Demand Survey, cosmetologists have
dramatically increased their earning power!

The average income for full-time salon employees, including tips, was approximately $18.08 per hour, or $36,360 a year

Salon owners averaged $24.36 per hour, or $48,720 a year

Due to the severe shortage of licensed salon professionals, there is ZERO UNEMPLOYMENT!

In 2002, 1,604,502 cosmetology professionals were employed

An additional 16,396 cosmetologists started their own establishments just since 1999

76% of salon owners who tried to fill open salon positions in 2002 said they were not always able to find qualified and licensed applicants
